4 Reasons why VoIP is a Good Call
Why is VoIP better? Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP technology allows making and receiving calls from any location with a high speed internet connection. This internet telephony technology exists with most modern IP PBX phone systems and can be used either with a desk phone, on your computer or on some mobile smartphone.
With VoIP service, the phone calls travel over the internet as data so VoIP also handles media types other than voice: you can transfer images, video and text along with the voice. For instance, you can speak to someone while sending files or even showing yourself using a web cam. The major benefits of VoIP technology are low telecommunications costs, portability, increased productivity, and many other features with no extra fees.
Low Communications Costs
The major reason for businesses to switch over to VoIP system is the huge savings on the regular phone bills every month as much as 50% off the regular analog phone bills. Most VoIP services only require a flat fee per month with North American long distance included, for one low rate.
With IP phones connected anywhere in the world over a high speed internet, calls to these phones are free. This can provide tremendous savings in phone expenses compared to traditional landlines and cell phones.
Portability
Another great benefit of using VoIP is portability. VoIP, unlike the regular phone number, is not distance or location dependent, it relies only on internet connection for communication; you can take it with you anywhere as long as you are able to access the internet.
For example, you can stay connected while on business trips without extra charges, all you need is your VoIP number and internet connection and you can use your smartphone or laptop to make and receive calls. Customers and employees can stay in touch just by calling your regular business phone number; they don’t need to call your cell phone.
Moreover, if you work in an organization using an intranet or extranet, you can still access your office from home through VoIP. You can convert your home into a segment of the office and remotely use the voice, fax and data services of your workplace through the organization’s intranet.
Increased Productivity
Many VoIP phone numbers can be configured to simultaneously ring on multiple devices before going to voice mail. In a recent survey conducted by Sage Research, the increased productivity enabled by internet telephony added up to 3.9 hours per week, per employee.
Many other tools with no extra fees improve communication between the customers and employees and allow you to see with ease if your employees are available and how to get in touch with them.
Other Communication Tools with no extra fees
All communications tools in one package, not at all possible with traditional phone technology:
• Audio conferencing & Video conferencing
• Voicemail messages sent to your email
• Call forwarding
• Fax thru e-mail
• DID (Direct Inward Dialing) Caller ID
• Unlimited long distance
VoIP phone systems are certainly fast becoming the new wave of the business communication future. The combination of savings on telephone expenses, along with the increase in productivity due to more effective means of communication will forever transform the way you do business.
There are various VoIP options available such as a local IP PBX phone system, SIP trunks and Hosted PBX. Before signing another cell phone contract, or writing out another cheque to the local phone company check into the options VoIP has to offer. You may just be pleasantly surprised at the many benefits this service can provide.

Benefits of Outsourcing IT Support Services
What are the benefits of outsourcing IT computer support and help desk services? One of the major issues businesses struggle with is whether or not to outsource their IT needs. While the idea of having a team of IT computer consulting professionals at your location, to handle all of your questions and requests may sound appealing, it may not actually be completely efficient or cost effective. Outsourcing should be viewed as strategic move that can allow business to gain a competitive advantage and reduce costs.
.
According to the recent study completed by International Data Corporation (IDC), the premier global provider of market intelligence for the IT market, the overall number of companies outsourcing their IT needs to external companies and maintain networks will continue to rise. The study also found that 92% of businesses using external managed service providers “will either increase or maintain the value” of their service agreements.
.
Here are some of distinct benefits to sending your IT needs to a professional service provider:
• Cost Reduction: The average tech professional, with at least five years of experience, is worth approximately $60,000 salary per year, plus benefits and vacation. That is just for one person. Outsourcing can be used to get lower cost base, which allows reduction in IT operation costs while maintaining service quality. This enables the company to free additional finances and focus on growing its core competencies.
• Better Service: When you contract with a managed service IT provider, you receive proactive 24/7 network management and monitoring, with priority service and help desk support service. There are no worries about what happens when your own IT employee takes a vacation, gets sick, or finds a new job. You will always receive the same level of support.
• Hidden Costs: Internal support often comes with many costs that are not always clear initially. These costs can come in the form of difficulties in hiring, ongoing training, and retaining skilled IT staff.
• High Level of Knowledge: IT support companies have a very high level of knowledge of even the most complicated issues and they adept in managing many different environments, software, hardware and business processes. Ongoing training and certifications are offered by technology partners such as Microsoft, to ensure that service providers maintain a high level of skill and expertise.
• Challenges are Welcome: professional IT service providers love to take on new challenges and create new solutions to customer business challenges. This can work wonders for your company as you will not have to worry about one employee becoming bored, losing interest, or rehashing the same material time and time again.
In short, when a company chooses to hire an outside firm to handle their IT needs, rather than hire someone to remain in house; they are getting a much higher level of expert service, with more dedication to their specific IT needs. IT companies are very focused on all aspects of business and take great pains to ensure every last detail is covered.
.
The choice in the long run is inevitably up to the business owner or upper management. That being said, partnering with IT management firm, businesses can regain their focus on the core competencies and so create a sustainable competitive advantage.

Smarter smartphones, before you can say “I have a new phone” – iPhone 5 rumours
Consumers expect a lot out of their technology and always want more features, faster performance and more applications. That’s the driving factor to the ever changing technology industry. And just when you settle into your technology, it changes again.
The smartphone market changes more rapidly than PCs and most other technology. Products are designed with planned obsolescence. About 6 in 10 (62%) smartphone owners expect their current smartphone will become obsolete before its contract expires.
If you were just settling into your iPhone 4s, you may or may not be pleased to know that the new replacement iPhone 5 will hit the market in the last quarter of this year, possibly early October. There are rumours that it will be completely redesigned, including the OS.
From the many concept pictures that I’ve seen of the new iPhone 5, this one tops it. A very sleek look, which from the backside looks more like the Mac mouse, than an iPhone. Although a curvaceous backend may look sexy, it’s not a functional design when laying on its back.
What’s exciting is the rumoured concept features. A laser keyboard & holographic display. Very… very cool.
I sure hope that Apple can find a battery to support useful longevity of this phone.
Check out the video and leave your commitments.

How to Move your Business Office without Downtime
Relocating a business and moving your office can be stressful especially when there’s downtime involved. But it doesn’t have to be so. How do you move without disrupting the flow of business and continue serving your customer? The secret is in the planning and don’t try to do it alone. Follow these tips and download the free moving checklist:
1- Pick your move planning committee team.
2- Within your team, assign responsibilities for looking after: office furniture, computer/phone/general office equipment, phone lines & Internet services, renovations and/or cleaning at the new location, if required.
3- Create an inventory list of the office equipment and furniture.
4- Determine what equipment and furniture you should keep or replace with new.
5- Individuals in your committee team should advise suppliers of your move and request for proposals, including phone/internet services for the new location, relocation or purchase of computers, phone system, test existing or install new phone/network cabling at new location, office furniture, moving companies, renovation and cleaning. Consider lead times and start this process 3 months in advance if possible.
The more time you give your team and suppliers to plan the above steps,
the easier and smoother your move will be.
Downtime can be avoided by planning the cut over (relocation) of your phone/internet services and phone/computer infrastructure, including furniture move to occur after hours. This is not as easy it may sound, but with careful planning you can transition to your new location without any or very little downtime. Click here to read how we’ve made this happen.

The $199 PlayBook is Back
RIM is at it again, the PlayBook promotion returns: $199 for the 16GB version, $249 for 32GB, and $299 for 64GB. The device won’t have
the latest 2.0 version software yet, but RIM will be rolling out the update soon.
Despite the negative publicity that this poor tablet has received, I have to say that at $200, with the new OS coming out soon, this is a really good deal.
It’s a device with better specs than others, it runs Flash, and has some great productivity software. If you want games and apps, it’s not the best choice. However, if you use a BlackBerry smartphone and are interested in email, time management, contacts, syncing, and all that great stuff, the PlayBook is a good buy. It’s also great for sales presentations especially if it includes web based Flash video.
With the Bridge feature you don’t need a separate 3G internet connection and you don’t need WiFi for the PlayBook. You can simply connect it your to your BlackBerry smartphone and use the internet connection from your phone. With a 7 inch screen size, this tablet is the ideal portable device that will keep you connected. A good buy for $200 bucks. Check out your favourite retailer. Also available at FutureShop and BestBuy.

Is Social Media a Fad or a Revolution?
Should you adopt Social Media into your business marketing strategies? Social media has exploded and it will continue in 2012. If you’re not on it yet, consider this;
- Half the world is under 30
- If Facebook were a country it would be the world’s 3rd largest, just behind China and India and ahead of the USA.
- Social Media has overtaken porn as the #1 activity on the web.
- The fastest growing segment on Facebook is females ages 55-65.
- 80% of companies use Social Media for recruitment.
- 78% of consumers trust peer recommendations, only 14% trust advertisements
Social Media isn’t a fad-it’s a fundamental shift in the way we communicate. The ROI of Social Media is that your business will still exist in 5 years.
